MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mansfield Partners in Education Team will host a free professional development workshop for educators and administrators, focusing on using origami to teach math concepts.

The workshop, titled “Folding Fractions: Origami and Math with Kuniko Yamamoto,” will be led by award-winning theatre performer and teaching artist Kuniko Yamamoto. It is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Theatre.

Designed for educators in grades K-8, the workshop will explore how origami can help students visualize and understand shapes, angles, and fractions. Participants will learn hands-on strategies to integrate origami into their lessons, making math vocabulary more accessible.

Yamamoto, a native of Japan, will also incorporate cultural insights and interactive math games into the session.

Registration is free and open to all area teachers and school administrators. Participants will receive contact hours toward Continuing Education Credits (CEUs). To register, visit rentickets.org.

Yamamoto has performed at venues such as Disney Epcot Center, The Kennedy Center, and the National Storytelling Festival. She has also conducted origami and math workshops in over 2,000 schools and colleges.

The Mansfield Partners in Education Team, which includes the Renaissance Performing Arts Association, the Mansfield Art Center, and Mansfield City Schools, is a program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
