MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)— The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced the closure of its Mansfield an office on North Diamond Street, effective May 17. This decision is part of a broader initiative to enhance security and identity verification procedures to combat fraudulent activity.  

Despite the closure, the SSA will maintain 56 offices across Ohio, with the nearest remaining locations in Marion, Medina, and Wooster. As part of the new security measures, millions of existing and prospective SSA recipients will be required to visit field agency offices in person for identity verification, rather than confirming their identity over the phone.   

The Mansfield office’s closure raises concerns among local residents. The SSA office is located at 1287 S. Trimble Road in Mansfield, with additional offices available in Wooster and Marion. The SSA’s decision underscores the agency’s commitment to safeguarding personal information, even as it poses challenges for individuals needing in-person services.
