Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and deputies with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office were kept busy at Friday’s OVI checkpoint. But the good news is they didn’t have to issue any citations to drivers for driving while impaired.
They did issue one citation, however: for driving without a driver’s license.
The checkpoint located just east of Bucyrus on County Road 330 resulted in law enforcement officers making contact with 722 vehicles passing through. Four of those vehicles were diverted for further investigation with just the one citation that was not alcohol-related.
The OVI checkpoint was funded by federal grant funds and planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The checkpoint was held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols.
