MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital has been awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) esteemed ENERGY STAR® certification, a testament to its superior energy performance and commitment to environmental sustainability.
The ENERGY STAR® certification, the only energy efficiency certification in the United States based on actual, verified energy performance, is awarded to hospitals that perform in the top 25% of buildings nationwide. This performance is measured based on weather-normalized source energy use, taking into account factors such as occupancy and hours of operation.
Mansfield Hospital President, Dr. Curt Gingrich, expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “We’re honored to earn the ENERGY STAR for superior energy performance at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital and appreciate the efforts of everyone who has been involved in its efficient operation.” He further emphasized that saving energy is a key way the hospital shows its commitment to the community, environmental protection, and public health.
Dr. Gingrich attributed this achievement to the hospital’s facilities team’s exceptional efforts and the construction team’s focus on operational efficiency.
The hospital’s sustainability initiative extends beyond its infrastructure. It has installed new electric vehicle charging stations to reduce tailpipe emissions and promote the use of electric vehicles among associates and visitors. This initiative aligns with OhioHealth’s Climate Pledge to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030, a steppingstone towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is the second OhioHealth hospital to achieve the ENERGY STAR® certification. For more information about ENERGY STAR® for Buildings and Plants, visit energystar.gov/buildings.
