MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — The Ohio State University at Mansfield, in partnership with Metronome Music of Mansfield, is offering a series of free guitar lessons to the public. The “Community Workshop Series: Guitar Fundamentals” is designed for new and beginning guitar players of all ages and will begin on October 22.
The sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 4 to 4:50 p.m. in Riedl Hall, Room 151, on Oct. 22 and 29, Nov. 5, 12 and 19, and Dec. 3 and 10. Each session is an independent event, and attendees are not required to participate in all of them. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

According to Mantra Das, a desktop and education support specialist at Ohio State Mansfield, the program aims to provide an accessible way for people to explore a new hobby and connect with the local music scene. “Everyone deserves a chance to learn how to play a music instrument, but some people can’t afford lessons,” Das said. “We’re just bringing people together to have fun and make friends with other musicians.”
The workshop series is part of a community engagement initiative supported by the Mellon Foundation and is open to everyone, regardless of their enrollment status.
The curriculum is based on the Beginning Acoustic Guitar Music Lessons from LinkedIn Learning, which is available for free to all participants through the Richland Library. Additionally, Ohio State students can earn academic credit and borrow a guitar for the semester by enrolling in Theatre 2000.09.
