RICE TOWNSHIP, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on October 13, 2025, at approximately 3:21 P.M. on State Route 53 north of the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County.
A 1987 International tractor, driven by John King, 70 years old of Tiffin, was pulling out of a field onto State Route 53 to travel northeast. Mr. King was pulling a 2025 Stoughton trailer. Mr. King and his passenger, Eric Purdham, 43 years old of Fremont, were wearing their seatbelts and were not injured in the crash.
A 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Andrea Spurck, 26 years old of Lakeside Marblehead, was traveling southwest on State Route 53 and struck the middle of the trailer, becoming entrapped underneath the trailer. Ms. Spurck was wearing her seatbelt during the crash. Ms. Spurck was extricated from the vehicle by the Lindsey Fire Department and Life-Flighted to Toledo Hospital in serious condition.
The crash is currently under investigation. There is currently a detour set up around the crash scene to allow for cleanup of debris from the crash. The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Lindsey Fire Department, Life Flight, Madison Motors Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
