With a car dealership in Bucyrus and two others planned, JR Jenney opened the Motor Ranch of Galion on Tuesday.
Jenney has been in the transportation business since 1991, after forming Ohio Specialty Services in Bucyrus that provides bussing services to area schools such as the Crawford and Marion counties boards of the developmentally disabled.
“We started out as a Thomas Built bus dealer, selling new and used buses. We would take a car here and there as a trade-in and it evolved from there,” said Jenney who opened the Motor Ranch in Bucyrus a few years ago.
At the Galion location, at least 30 vehicles will be on the lot at any given time, including cars, mini-vans, SUV’s and trucks.
“Prices will range from $2,000 to $30,000, depending on the type of vehicle people are looking for,” Jenney said. “We specialize in one-owner vehicles.”
The Bucyrus location, at 1825 E. Mansfield St., features a full-service facility while the Galion location will offer limited services.
“We will have a mechanic and detail person here but not for the public at this time,” Jenney said.
Jenney said future plans include dealerships in both Marion and Chatfield that will feature marine options along with golf carts and power sports.
Jenney said his manager in Bucyrus is Chad Dalenberg while Aaron Adams will head up the Galion Motor Ranch, located at 245 Harding Way West.
Jenney’s general manager, Colby Bright, had the vision for the Galion location.
“This was Tom Mies Motors for over 30 years,” Jenny said. “He had a great reputation and this is a great location.”
John Harris, Paul Sorenson and John Wiparina completed renovations at the Galion location.
“They did an amazing job,” Jenny said. “Laura Johnson, owner of Cake and Icing in Galion, did the design work and provided us with delicious goodies from her business.”
An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony by the Galion Area Chamber of Commerce is at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The Motor Ranch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
“After-hour appointments are available,” Jenney said.
