COLUMBUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Ohio’s minimum wage is set to rise on January 1, 2025, with non-tipped employees earning $10.70 per hour and tipped employees receiving $5.35 per hour. This increase applies to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts exceeding $394,000.
Currently, in 2024, the minimum wage stands at $10.45 per hour for non-tipped employees and $5.25 per hour for tipped employees. The 2024 wage applies to employees of businesses with annual gross receipts over $385,000.
The wage hike is a result of the Constitutional Amendment (II-34a) passed by Ohio voters in November 2006, which mandates an annual increase in the state’s minimum wage based on the rate of inflation. The state minimum wage is linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) for urban wage earners and clerical workers. The CPI-W index saw a 2.4% increase from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024.
For employees at smaller companies with annual gross receipts of $394,000 or less, and for 14- and 15-year-olds, the state’s minimum wage remains $7.25 per hour. This rate is tied to the federal minimum wage, which can only be changed through an act of Congress and the President’s signature.
