Two Bucyrus police officers received commendations at the Bucyrus City Council meeting Tuesday night.
Officer Scott Davis was presented with the Medal of Life Saving Award. Davis responded to two overdose calls of unresponsive men in 2015 and saved their lives with his actions. Chief Dave Koepke and Mayor Jeff Reser presented the plaque while Davis’ father presented him with the medal. He also received a plaque from the ADAMH Board.
“We’d like to thank Chief (Koepke) for going out and encouraging his officers to be trained,” said Jody Demo-Hodgins of ADAMH. “We want to offer a commendation to Scott for his hard work and the fact that he saved not only one life, but two. We’re sure that you’ll have sadly more opportunities to do that, but we’re glad that you’re here in our community. You make us feel safer and you’re really providing an amazing service.”
Officer Amos Wolfe was presented with the Professional Achievement award for his work enforcing OVI laws, and detecting and apprehending drugged and drunk drivers.
“With the opiate epidemic we’ve been facing we’ve seen a tremendous increase in drugged driving, not just drunk driving,” Koepke said.
He added that officers need special training to recognize evidence of physical impairment for drugged drivers.
“Amos has been our top officer in one, getting educated about it, and he has a great desire to that end. Two, taking the initiative to enforce the OVI laws,” said Koepke.
