BUCYRUS — Officers with the Bucyrus Police Department are investigating a crash involving a pick-up truck and the Sandusky River.
According to BPD Public Information Officer Tom Walker, a citizen called in a report of a truck in the river Sunday evening at 8:46 p.m.
“We received a report of a truck driving in the river,” Walker said. “We located the truck and it was reported there were people walking through the brush and woods on the other side of the river. We enlisted the help of the county (Sheriff’s Office) but were unable to locate the people.”
The truck may have gone into the river at the end of North Highland Avenue or from the Lutz Drive area.
“We have not been able to locate tracks, so we are not sure of the location in which the truck went into the river,” Walker said.
He said the owner of the vehicle has been located but is not being cooperative with officers.
“He told us a juvenile was driving the truck when it went into the river but will not provide us with the juvenile’s name or any other information,” Walker said.
He said the Ohio Division of Watercraft may be called in to assist in removing the truck from the river.
“The location of the truck is an issue, so we have no idea how we are going to pull it out of the water,” Walker said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call the Bucyrus Police Department at 419-562-1006.
