BUCYRUS — A Crawford County corrections officer facing felony charges has resigned from his position with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Jason Tupps

Jason Tupps of Galion turned in a resignation letter dated Aug. 6 to Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent. The letter says that Tupps requested his resignation to be considered effective immediately.

The resignation letter says Tupps decided to resign based on his personal belief that once the legal proceedings have concluded, it is not possible for him to return to work.

Tupps’ attorney, Adam Stone, said he agreed with Tupps’ thought that it would be unfair for Tupps to expect the sheriff and other deputies to return to work as normal should Tupps have returned to the department.

“There is no more normal,” Stone said. “Jason felt it was the only right decision and it was what was best for himself, his family and the department.”

Stone said Tupps loved being a corrections officer and made the decision on his own accord.

Kent confirmed that a representative of The Stone Law Firm delivered the resignation, but had no additional comment on the issue.

Stone said his office delivered the letter to assist Tupps in avoiding a violation of his personal recognizance bond that included having no contact with law enforcement.
