MONNETT ― The Dallas Township Fire Department responded to a truck-train crash early Sunday morning.

According to Fire Chief Reggie Russell, the front passenger’s side of an Ohio Department of Transportation truck was struck by a train in Monnett on Ohio 294 on Sunday at 4:43 a.m.

“The plow was detached from the truck and the train carried the plow in the air 119 feet down the railroad tracks before the plow was stopped when it struck a tree,” Russell said.

The female driver suffered minor injuries and was taken by Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service to Galion Community Hospital.

“For some reason, Galion then re-routed them to Bucyrus Community Hospital,” Russell said.

Russell said the snow plow truck was severely damaged and towed from the scene by Ronk’s Towing.

He said the gates at the crossing appeared to be working correctly.

The accident is under investigation by troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol who were also at the scene.
