The Fourth of July is traditionally a dangerous holiday on our roadways, particularly for impaired driving. Last year, 263 drivers were arrested for drug and alcohol-related charges on July 4. Impaired driving also contributed to 87 crashes statewide.

“Drivers have the responsibility to protect their life and the lives of others by choosing not to drink and drive,” said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. “We want motorists to avoid becoming a statistic.”
To stay safe this holiday weekend, motorists should:

DRIVE SAFELY
• Leave about one car length per 10 mph of speed between vehicles
• Stay alert and watch for animals on the side of the road
• Come to a complete stop and look both ways before entering the highway
