MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—North Central State College’s Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology (BASMET) program has been officially accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, a prestigious national accreditor.
The accreditation is a significant milestone for the program, which was launched in 2019 to address regional workforce demands for high-skill jobs. It is also retroactive to the program’s first graduating class in 2023, ensuring that all alumni have earned an accredited degree. The accreditation will remain in effect through 2031.

Dr. Dorey Diab, President of North Central State College, commended the effort of the faculty, staff, and industry partners. “This accreditation is a tremendous milestone for the college and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our faculty, staff, and college community,” Diab said. “It not only validates the excellence of our Mechanical Engineering Technology program but also enhances the value of our students’ degrees in the eyes of employers.”
The program, which provides hands-on training primarily at the college’s Kehoe Center in Shelby, was created with approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. ABET accreditation is often a requirement for professional licensure and can significantly improve graduates’ employment prospects.
The accreditation marks a key step in the college’s mission to provide high-quality, affordable, and locally relevant higher education.
