ATTICA–North Central Electric Cooperative is proud to sponsor Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This sponsorship aligns with two of the cooperative’s core principles: concern for community and education.
North Central Electric is honored to be the affiliate sponsor for this new program in Seneca County. Since 2018, the Gase Family Literacy Fund has been providing funding for children up to age five in the Tiffin vicinity of Seneca County. Now, with the affiliation of North Central Electric, the program has expanded to include Alvada, Attica, Bascom, Bettsville, Bloomville, Flat Rock, Fostoria, Green Springs, Kansas, Melmore, New Riegel, Old Fort, and Republic in Seneca County.
From birth through age five, children can enroll to receive one book a month. Then, after enrollment, they will begin receiving their monthly book at no cost to their family.
“You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children,” Dolly Parton said.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by giving books free of charge. The program launched in 1995, and it quickly grew to where it is today. Over 163 million free books have been gifted to kids from birth to age five as of July 2021.
“When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams,” Parton said. “The seeds of these dreams are often found in books, and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world.”
Research has shown that book ownership can be a predictor of future academic success. Studies have found that children with just 25 books in their homes were more likely to complete an additional two years of education.
