Press release

On Tuesday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the Bucyrus High School Science Club will host the Noah Lear Memorial Blood Drive with the American Red Cross. The blood drive will be held in the Alex Kish Gymnasium at Bucyrus High School.

“Hosting a blood drive coincides with the Bucyrus High School Science Club core values of giving back to the community,” said Science Club co-advisor Pat Hargis. “With a simple blood donation, we can help save the life of someone who could be a co-worker, loved one or neighbor.”

Lear was a junior at Bucyrus High School when he tragically passed away on March 16, 2016, due to injuries from a pickup basketball game gone wrong. Lear is remembered by many for his dedication and positivity as well as his desire to help others.

“Noah was an excellent student,” said Hargis. “We ask that everyone please consider making a donation in Noah’s memory.”

It is requested that individuals of all blood types consider donating, as all blood types are needed. The blood types that are especially needed are types O negative, B negative, and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is often used to treat trauma patients as it is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone.

As an incentive to donate blood, donors will receive a Columbus Zoo Buy One, Get One entry offer. Donors also get to enter into a weekly drawing for four Zoombezi Bay passes. To make an appointment to donate, or for further information, call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) or sign up online at redcrossblood.org with sponsor code BucyrusHS.
