The New Washington Village Council did some house cleaning on some ordinances Monday evening with the passage of a single ordinance.
Ordinance 974 was approved with no contesting votes. The ordinance, will repeal ordinances that conflict with current codified ordinances on the books.
In Village Administrator Norm Lucius’ report to council, he noted that an ad announcing the acceptance of bids had been placed regarding items for sale from the village that include an old weed trimmer, a water pump from the reservoir, and filing cabinets among others. The bids will be opened at 10 a.m., Oct. 24. Lucius noted that the pump had been purchased in 1998 for $9,000.
Lucius also reported that a sink hole that developed on Mansfield Street will be looked into on Tuesday. Lucius explained that village crews weren’t able to get to the matter Monday due to the morning rainfall.
In Village Clerk/Treasurer Julie Cronau’s report she announced that the annual Knights of Columbus Halloween Parade will take place on Oct. 21 this year with costume judging taking place at 11 a.m., the parade at noon, announcement of the costume winners following the parade, and trick-or-treating taking place immediately after until 4 p.m.
Cronau also relayed the information that she is currently looking into prices for on-site document shredding of old village documents that date to 1874.
Village Solicitor Tim Obringer noted that it isn’t uncommon to have shredding on site at many attorney offices, as well as municipalities.
“In this day and age it is very important,” Obringer said.
In the report from the Safety Committee, Gerri Lucius said that in discussions with Police Chief Jeffery Shook he had asked for the Finance Committee to include the purchase or lease of a new police vehicle in the budget. Council decided that more information on leasing versus buying the vehicle outright were needed to be given before the Finance Committee looks into the matter.
Craig Niese reported that the Methodist Church was added to the list of participating groups in recycling. Niese noted that he has tried contacting the local Cub Scouts troop, but had yet to receive a response from them.
