News out of Monday’s New Washington Village Council meeting was, for the most part, positive.
Patty Krebs gave the second quarter income tax report. This year to date $192,332.67 has been collected by the village. This represents an increase of $16,909 over 2013. This may represent a little of a false positive, however, as one of the businesses in town may be due a bit of a refund. This business currently has contributed $18,000 to the total. There are currently 37 non-filed non-paid on the books that Krebs is pursuing.
At the last Council meeting, Roger Throckmorton and Suzanne Wuthrich made the official request to Council that the ordinance be tabled for the foreseeable future, based on the fact that noise levels from the birds have been down somewhat. On Monday night, Darrell LaVenia joined Throckmorton and Wuthrich to express their gratitude for Council’s help and attentiveness, and to officially explain their decision.
LaVenia described their request that council table the nuisance ordinance as, “We thought on our part it would show one last ditch effort to be neighborly.”
“If things can remain the way they have been the last few weeks, we should be able to make it through the summer,” LaVenia said. “I’m not going to say they haven’t been a nuisance, but it’s been better.”
Several of the upcoming summer projects received good reports beginning with the Jeffrey Drive paving project: Bucyrus Road Materials will be in town to begin work Wednesday (May 14), providing the weather cooperates. Paul Forster reported that the pool renovation project is on schedule, and Administrator Norm Lucius reported that the pool has been drained and cleaned with an eye toward re-filling it next week. Also from Lucius: the mulch at the park was spread, tiling took place on Tiffin Street, and landscaping on East Mansfield Street.
The next meeting will take place at 7 p.m. May 28. This is a Wednesday, due to that Monday, May 26, being Memorial Day.
