New Washington Police Chief Scott Robertson died early Thursday morning after being taken to Willard Mercy Hospital.

Robertson was 53-years-old.

“He’s certainly going to be missed,” Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent said of Robertson.

The sheriff noted that Robertson was known for his humor at meetings and was even somewhat of a mentor. Robertson was a deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office prior to becoming police chief in New Washington.

“I’ve known Scott for several years. He was actually one of my training officers at college in 1994,” Kent said.

Kent said he had had a phone conversation with Robertson Wednesday evening regarding the Central Joint Ambulance District meeting that night. Robertson was New Washington’s representative on the ambulance board.

According to Kent, the call came into his office about Robertson at 5:59 a.m. Robertson was transported to Willard Mercy Hospital where he died. There is no information at this time as to the cause of death.

Robertson went to Mansfield St. Peter’s High School and was originally from Chicago. He was married with children at home.
