Flags in New Washington were flown at half-mast Thursday in remembrance of Village Police Chief Scott Robertson. Robertson passed away unexpectedly that morning at Willard Mercy Hospital after becoming ill at home.

Characteristically, Robertson had been representing his village just the night before at a Central Joint Ambulance District meeting.

Robertson worked with the village of New Washington for 17 years beginning in November of 1997 as the EMS Administrator. In June of 1999 Robertson became the village’s police chief. Robertson just recently added the responsibilities of being the village’s representative on the CJAD board.

“This is a tremendous loss for the community. He did so much for the community,” Village Council member Joseph Blum reflected. “He was very comforting to talk to in times of grief. No matter what situation he was always calm.”

“We are shocked, and saddened. He wore many hats for this community, and we are going to miss him dearly,” New Washington Mayor Ben Lash said.

Lash noted that the next council meeting will be Monday and that more information will be discussed then by council.

When news broke on Crawford County Now, readers expressed their sympathies and remembrances of Robertson on Facebook.

“Scott was an amazing man who looked after our community. He had the biggest heart, smile and wave! He will be truly missed!” Liza Kaple Hafner wrote.

“I really liked him & got to know him through safety council. He was a great guy. My condolences to his family,” Marilyn Delaney reflected.

There is no information at this time as to the cause of death. Robertson is survived by his wife Yvette and their children. He was 53.
