NEW WASHINGTON — New Washington Village Council’s regular meeting Monday evening was brief.

Village administrator Norm Lucius explained the water in the reservoir also was lowered to the standard necessary, but authorities still are saying more water must be removed. According to Lucius, authorities are also requesting that an automatic working overflow be installed.

Council then discussed that they would prefer a manual overflow that would require monitoring by village staff. According to village officials, having a manual overflow would save a significant amount of money compared to the expense an automatic overflow would bring.

Village clerk-treasurer Julie Cronau said she asked Studer-Obringer Construction to make a recommendation and draft a letter for the village.

She reported that the letter explained the village would prefer to have the overflow be manual, rather than going to the expense of an automatic overflow would bring about. Council agreed to have the letter sent to see if it would change the minds of authorities. Further action is to be taken as necessary.

In other council business, Lucius also reported that the east side of the village septic lines were cleaned out. Lucius explained that quite a few stones, some the size of baseballs and softballs were found. The rest of the area was reportedly easy to clean out with little blockage and buildup.

A short finance meeting followed the conclusion of the meeting.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is July 9 at 4:30 p.m.
