New Washington Village Council made short work of their meeting Monday night, passing a single ordinance.
The ordinance unanimously approved by council is a renewal for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to inspect the village’s bridges from 2017-2020 at no cost to the village. The village entered into the original agreement with ODOT in 2014.
New Washington Council also approved extending the probationary period for one of the village’s police officers. Police Chief Jeff Shook noted that he wanted to give the fullest opportunity to learn how to do the job, as coaching commitments took the officer away from the force for a period during the fall.
In Shook’s report, he noted that the New Washington Police Department officers are currently finishing up their yearly certifications.
In Village Administrator Norm Lucius’ report to council he noted that the street department has kept up with leaves, helped repair a broken tile, installed the village’s Christmas lights and cleaned the mowers for the winter.
Councilman Joe Blum reported that the back door of the library had been repaired.
