NEW WASHINGTON―A New Washington man was struck by a pick-up truck near New Washington on Tuesday while riding his bicycle.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene at 3:55 p.m. on Scott Road, east of the intersection at Boundary Road. According to a report by the Sheriff’s Office, Benedict J. Karl, 70, Tiro, was traveling west on Scott Road in his 1995 Chevrolet pick-up truck when the passenger’s side mirror struck 74-year-old Duane A. Aichholz as he was riding his blue Mountain Bike in the same direction on Scott Road as Karl.

Members of the New Washington Volunteer Fire Department, Life Support Team EMS and the New Washington Police Department responded to the scene along with deputies.

Aichholz declined emergency medical services or an ambulance. Karl was issued a traffic citation for assured clear distance and both the pickup truck and bicycle were driven from the area.
