BUCYRUS—On Tuesday night, the Bucyrus City School District held its monthly board of education meeting.
The advertisement for the vacant board seat will go out next week, and a special meeting will be held before the regular meeting on January 13 at 5:30 p.m., where they hope the new member will swear in.
The board members discussed possible uses of ESSER III money, which included resurfacing the track, and new BenQ interactive smartboards for teachers to replace projectors and the current, outdated smartboards.
The BenQ boards can come with a cart to wheel them around the room. They have a whiteboard feature. They allow teachers to screen share. The screen is germ resistant, along with many more useful tools for teachers.
With the grant, the district will also be able to replace the staff members’ laptops to a Chromebook, PC, or MacBook Air, and the students will all be given new Chromebooks.
The BenQ boards, purchased with ESSER III funds, will be voted on at a future meeting.
Other possible uses for ESSER III funds are foundations training for K-5, additional Wilson training, responsive classroom training, team building and retreats for the BLTs, DLTs, and maybe the board, and current best practices.
Sixteen middle school and high school students earned art achievement awards: Trinity Amos (Freshman), Paige Barnett (8th Grade), Kendra Blizzard (Sophomore), Harper Boggs (Sophomore), Karleigh Burling (Senior), Daniel Campbell (Freshman), Adriana Clark (Junior), Brady Click (7th Grade), Lilian Engelhorn (7th Grade), Laila Perdue (Sophomore), Zoe Pfeifer (Sophomore), Brady Rankins (Senior), Mya Rothhaar (7th Grade), Sarah Snodgrass (Senior), Myah Thomas (Freshman), and Cambria Wolff (Junior).
High school band members Rosalind Johnson and Katie Kuhn were selected to participate in the 2022 Ohio Music Education Association Honors Band. To be selected for the OMEA Honors Band, students had to record an audition video and submit it. They were then selected out of around one hundred and fifty other applicants from eight counties. The performance is on January 22 in Port Clinton.
This meeting served as members John Kime and Deb Hoover’s last meeting on the board.
