While there have been some new faces heading the Bucyrus Salvation Army, that hasn’t slowed down the efforts and activities of the organization.

Captain Kathy Dorchak from Pickwah, Ohio, and Lieutenant Annie Buckles from Marietta, Ohio were assigned to the Bucyrus Salvation Army a month ago, and have taken to the job in stride seeing that the end of the month free lunch, the upcoming garage sale, and the annual school supply giveaway are ran efficiently.

“We are still getting our feet wet to figure out what already has been going on here,” Buckles said. “One of the first things I saw was that we have a chapel, because we do church services Sunday, which not many people are aware of, and there is a sign somebody built years ago and it says ‘every child matters, and that is something that I am passionate about.”

The Free lunch takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 28 through August 1 at the Salvation Army on E. Rensselaer St.

“It is open to anyone who wants to come in. It is in our multipurpose room in the other building,” Buckles explained.

The monthly Garage sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday August 2 at the Salvation Army’s E. Rensselaer St. location.

“The garage sale is something that benefits some of the things we do in the community. It will be here at our building, everyone is welcome to come and see what we got.” Buckles added.

From 1 to 3 p.m. on August, 13 the Salvation Army will be providing their annual school supplies giveaway. The giveaway is only available to Bucyrus area school students only, identification that the child attends one of the city are schools needs to be provided, and a parent must be present.

Buckles said, “Because school is coming up, I know it can be expensive, especially if you have more than one child. There is a whole list that school wants you to provide from pencils, crayons, markers and even if you catch a good sale it still adds up.”
