Holy Redeemer Independent Old Catholic Church will officially reopen the doors of what was the First English Church in Crestline on Palm Sunday, April 13. That congregation will operate under a new guiding philosophy on same-sex relationships.

Holy Redeemer’s Board of Directors officially announced the church will extend full sacramental privileges to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Those privileges include the sacrament of marriage.

Although the state of Ohio does not recognize same-sex couples as a married couple, the church will provide sacraments and spiritual support for committed same-sex couples.

Father Anthony Capretta is the rector for Holy Redeemer and his prepared statement read, in part, “Christian churches are long overdue in their responsibility to demonstrate Christ-like behavior that is non-discriminatory amongst all God’s children.”
