BUCYRUS — At the suggestion of a Bucyrus resident, a local business owner has created yard signs to show support for all essential workers during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

Rachel Striker recently opened her business, Print Happy, in Bucyrus and has found a way to be creative as a busy mom of a toddler and teenagers.

“I couldn’t justify spending my time and energy on something other than my family unless it would better our lives as a whole,” Striker said. “I had been learning how to do pretty hand lettering onto coffee mugs when I discovered sublimation printing and a whole new world opened up.”

She said sublimation printing is unlike vinyl heat transfers in that it is a chemical reaction that causes your design to become a part of the material, rather than on it so it doesn’t crack, peel and come off over time.

“It also doesn’t have the setup cost of screen printing, so it’s totally affordable to do single items instead of requiring large minimum orders,” Striker said.

Striker can create T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs, puzzles, aprons and more.

“We can use your logo or help you to create one of your very own. We are able to do single items to bulk orders,” said Striker. “We can offer quick turn around and local pick up or shipping.”

Striker said Norma Fegley Burke of Bucyrus, recently contacted her about making something similar to a political sign for her yard to thank all of the essential workers who are keeping everything going for the community.

“I was able to create the design with the suggestions of Norma and the essential heart art is from an amazing graphic designer, Debbie Frantzen, who is based out of Idaho. I wasn’t able to make one of the political yard style, but wracked my brain to come up with a way to help her with her wonderful idea and we landed on the garden flags,” Striker said.

Striker is busy creating the garden flags that sport the names of different cities depending on the requests, for a variety of communities and Fegley Burke has contacted Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser to donate one to the city.

“This is a time to let our essential workers know how much we appreciate them. From healthcare workers to sanitation workers, grocery store clerks, first responders and so many more who are keeping things going for us during this difficult time, we want them to know they are appreciated,” Reser said. “Thank you to Norma for recognizing them in this way and to Print Happy, a new business in Bucyrus, for creating the flags. We have a lot of very good people in our community.”

To learn more about Print Happy or to order and purchase a garden flag thanking essential workers or other items, visit the Print Happy website at www.printhappyohio.com, call 419-689-6472 or send an email to info@printhappyohio.com. Print Happy also may be found on Facebook and Instagram.

“The website still leaves a lot to be desired as it was created quickly over night to accommodate so many people placing orders for the flags and giving them a way to pay to maintain social distancing,” Striker said.
