A new chiropractor chose to start his practice by opening in Bucyrus, a decision he said was not a hard one to make.

Brett Brodbeck said he came, in part, because his wife is from the area and her family is still here. But the clincher was reading a story on the Internet about Crawford: 20/20 Vision and its goals for growth, lifestyle and business.

“I felt like it was calling my name,” Brodbeck said.

Originally from a suburb near Nashville, Tenn., Brodbeck found himself at the University of Toledo and kicking a football for the Rockets. At school he met his wife, the former Shelby Martin, and he hurt his back. Both events led to his beginning his practice in Bucyrus.

“I had a back injury in college and that’s what got me into the whole natural wellness,” Brodbeck said.

The other event that helped bring him to Bucyrus was a visit to his future in-laws’ farm. It was an eye-opener for someone raised in suburbia.

“I first came here eight years ago and I had never been on a farm before. I was amazed at how food is produced,” Brodbeck said. “That was the first thing that led me to want to come here. We decided we wanted to live a lifestyle that’s conducive to health.”

modern spineBrodbeck’s office is currently at 118 West Warren Street in Bucyrus and is called the Modern Spine Chiropractic Center. Although only open about three months in that location, Brodbeck will soon be moving to the 100 block of South Sandusky Street sometime in January.

“I opened this place to try and build up patients and to get to know the community,” Brodbeck said of the West Warren Street location.

He will share his new office with his wife who will be opening her own business, East Maple Clothing Store. Brodbeck described that venture as “kind of a boutique.”

Brodbeck majored in exercise science at Toledo and went from there to Life University in Marietta for his professional training and education.

“I basically have two practices I serve in one location,” Brodbeck explained.

This first is what he described as a structural practice focusing on traditional chiropractic methods for the spine and other joints. The second is as a certified functional medicine practioner.

Advanced training for that designation allows Brodbeck to order bloodwork for his clients to determine the underlying cause of chronic conditions they may be experiencing that involve diet and lifestyle.

Brodbeck said he and his wife, along with their three young daughters, thoroughly enjoy the area after living and going to school in the Atlanta-Marietta area.

“We love the small town feel. We love living on the farm,” Brodbeck said.

In addition to seeing patients in Bucyrus, he also works with patients in Columbus, Tennessee, and other locales describing those as “virtual” appointments on Skype.

Brodbeck accepts patients by appointment. The phone number is 419-562-4199. Those wishing to see Brodbeck may also schedule an appointment online at www.themodernspine.com, or on Facebook at Modern Spine Chiropractic.
