MOUNT GILEAD-Voters in Morrow County chose a new county auditor and a county commissioner in Tuesday’s primary election.
Roughly 30 percent of the county’s 24,927 registered voters turned out at the 33 precincts.
Tom Whiston lost his seat on the county commissioners by a large margin, falling to Jon Mason, 4,257 to 1,654.
Newcomer Conni McChesney ousted incumbent Auditor Patricia Davies 3,197 to 2,744.
Both Mason and McChesney are Republicans, and no Democrats ran for either office in the heavily GOP county.
The Mount Gilead Fire Department levy passed by a margin of 358-313. The county’s Developmental Disabilities levy failed 4,256 to 3,160.
The income tax levy estimated revenue to property tax would be approximately a 4.5 mill property tax levy or $140 annually of property tax per $100,000 of home valuation.
Due to the passage, staffing levels will remain unchanged with the village’s fire department, chief Chad Swank had said previously.
