BUCYRUS—A Bucyrus woman who faces more than life in prison on 17 indictments four which include rape, all first degree felonies, was appointed a new attorney on Wednesday in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Karla Stander, 47, of Bucyrus was appointed attorney Andrew Motter at her arraignment on Monday. Motter asked that he be withdrawn from the case.

Stander is accused of knowing her husband was providing drugs to two female victims who were then allegedly raped after they passed out or became incapacitated. The sexual crimes spanned over a ten year period. The alleged crime was discovered when detectives investigated her husband, Chad Stander in a stolen gun case.

According to prosecutor Matt Crall, Stander could be charged with even more counts because of what she revealed to authorities. Crall also indicated that Karla Stander admitted to participating in the crimes.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold accepted Motter’s withdraw from the case. He then appointed Bucyrus attorney Tom Nicholson to the case. Although Nicholson has yet to meet with his new client, he offered a statement to Crawford County Now. “The Nicholson Law Firm is appreciative of all court appointed cases. We will do our best for our client.” Nicholson said.

Karla Stander along with her husband Chad remains in separate areas of the Crawford County Jail. They are both under a $2,000,000.00 bond.
