The leadership within the Bucyrus Board of Education remained intact for another year.

During Monday night’s organizational meeting, the board voted to retain Brad Murtiff as president while Doug Schiefer was once again selected as vice president.

The board also made the following appointments:
• Adam Stone as the Legislative Liaison for OSBA Federal Relations Network;
• Dr. Paul Johnson as the Pioneer Career and Technology Center representative;
• Johnson as the Student Achievement representative;
• Schiefer and Murtiff as Athletic Council representatives;
• Traci Wetterau as the Wellness Committee representative; and
• Murtiff and Stone as the Negotiations representatives.

A regular school board meeting immediately followed the organizational meeting.

During treasurer Ryan Cook’s report, he announced that the district had spent $354,000 more during the month of December than it had brought in. He acknowledged that it would be difficult to climb into the black with health insurance on the horizon.

Superintendent Kevin Kimmel presented the board with the 2015-2016 school calendar. He noted that this calendar allowed for the first semester to end before Christmas break. Kimmel said it was the best options for students when it came to testing, especially in light that students will be going into exams this week with only two days of study since the Christmas break.

Graduation will also be one week earlier in the 2015-2016 school year. Though there are slight changes in the condensed calendar, Kimmel said that it still has the same number of hours as the current school year. Kimmel added that the calendar currently does not have any teacher in-service days built in. Those dates will be recommended later in the year.

Approval for the 2015-2016 school year calendar will be asked for at the next board meeting.
