BUCYRUS — Several defendants were arraigned via video and in person last week in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Thomas C. Wells

Thomas Wells, 41, of New Haven pleaded not guilty to one third-degree felony charge for domestic violence, punishable with as many as three years in prison. According to allegations, Wells originally was charged in 2019, posted $50,000 in bail and absconded.

Attorney Geoff Stoll was appointed to represent Wells and an additional $25,000 was ordered.

Joseph B. Horvath

Joseph Horvath, 23, of Mansfield pleaded not guilty to a fourth-degree felony charge for assault on a police officer, punishable with as many as 18 months in prison; a fourth-degree felony charge for resisting arrest, punishable with up to 18 months in prison; and one fourth-degree misdemeanor charge disorderly conduct, punishable with as many as 30 days in jail.

According to allegations, Horvath was taken into custody at the Crawford County Jail and became combative. When the officers tried to place him in a restraining chair, Horvath allegedly kicked a deputy. Bond was set at $50,000.

Jaquan J. Brown

Jaquan Brown, 20, of Mansfield pleaded not guilty to one third-degree felony charge for failure to comply, punishable with as many as three years in prison; one fifth-degree felony charge for possession of drugs, punishable with as much as one year in prison; one first-degree misdemeanor charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, punishable with as many as six months in jail and a $1,000 fine; and a second-degree misdemeanor charge for obstructing official business, punishable with as many as 90 days in jail and a $750 fine.

According to allegations, Brown was intoxicated and registered a .2 result on a breathalyzer test, drugs were found in the vehicle and a chase ensued during the attempted stop in which speeds reached above 35 miles per hour greater than the speed limit.

Crawford County Common Pleas Judge Sean Leuthold appointed attorney Jerry Thompson to represent Brown. Bond was set at $75,000.

Nevada L. Frost

Nevada Frost, 24, of Sycamore pleaded not guilty to a third-degree felony charge for having weapons under disability, punishable with as many as three years in prison and a first-degree misdemeanor charge for using weapons while intoxicated, punishable with as many as six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to allegations, Frost fired shots through an upstairs floor and a fight with his father over the gun followed.

“This could have gone bad fast,” Crawford County Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler said.

Attorney Brad Starkey was appointed to represent Frost. Bond was set at $75,000.
