MARION—On January 2, 2023, at 7:33 a.m., officers from the Marion Police Department responded to the Multi-County Correctional Center located at 1514 Victory Road in the City of Marion for a report of a serious injury that occurred inside the facility.

Greg Bunker, age 55, of Marion, had been transported from the Multi-County Correctional Center to Marion General Hospital at approximately 4:25 a.m. by a Marion City Fire Department Squad.

Bunker was reported to be unresponsive to the MCFD by jail staff.

Bunker was later transported to Grant Hospital in Columbus by helicopter, where he died. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy on Mr. Bunker.

Officers and Detectives are investigating this case and have prepared charges for felonious assault against Jack W. Mangus, age 40, of Blacklick, Ohio, to be reviewed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Mangus was incarcerated in the jail at the time of the incident. Mangus remains in jail at this time.
