Marion, OH – Congratulations to Marion Technical College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program for receiving accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

MTC DMS staff 2014

This accreditation is granted only after recommendation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) based on a programmatic review and site visit. Recognition by CAAHEP qualifies the Program’s graduates for eligibility to apply for and take the following certification examinations for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS): Sonography Principles and Instrumentation, Abdominal Sonography, and Obstetrical and Gynecological Sonography.

“Marion Technical College is dedicated to providing a quality education,” said Deb Myers, Diagnostic Medical Sonography program director. “Receiving this accreditation demonstrates our desire and commitment to our students and community.” Marion Technical College is one of only 11 accredited ultrasound programs in the state of Ohio.

CAAHEP, the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field, works with its Committees on Accreditation to accredit programs in 20 different allied health occupations. In order to be granted programmatic accreditation, Marion Technical College began the review process back in 2012 and underwent extensive program reviews and a site visit to demonstrate that the diagnostic medical sonography program met all CAAHEP standards.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program prepares students for the field, which entails a medical diagnostic test that uses ultrasound to produce visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. During the course of the associates program, students have the opportunity to study anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of scanned organ systems, recognize the sonographic patterns of the organs, learn protocols for a logical and thorough survey of the organs, and provide accurate and technical findings to the interpreting physician.
