Preserving Galion History LLC, the owners of the historic Gill/Talbott/Hesby House are holding Mourning Tours and Lantern Tours this weekend. Cost for each tour is $5. Proceeds from these tours go to the restoration and maintenance of this landmark home.

The Mourning Tours will be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. These tours will feature rooms in the house decorated in the style of mourning of the 19th and early 20th century. Tour guides will explain the meaning of mourning in the late Victorian and early Edwardian period.

The Lantern Tours will be held at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights weather permitting. This walking tour will tell the stories of the houses that line Harding Way West, from the builders and the architectural styles to stories of the homes. Did you know that one of these homes was allegedly lost in a poker game?

The Gill/Talbott/Hesby House is a Galion landmark. Designed by noted architect Louis Kamper and built in the early 20th century, the home has been visited by notables like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and others. This house stands on the original Gill property. The Gills were one of the first settlers in the Galion area and played a prominent role in the development of Galion.
