BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The mother of the child victims of David Holdcraft has reached out to Crawford County Now to provide her statement.
On Wednesday, David Holdcraft pleaded guilty to three counts of child rape. Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold took special time to lay a specific, and at times, graphic record of the rapes of two victims under the age of ten.
Judge Leuthold made his observations based on the self-reporting of Holdcraft. He was the subject of a pre-sentence investigation. Leuthold noted that recollections made by Holdcraft, were a part of the evaluation that relied on his voluntary truthfulness.
The father of the victims read an emotional impact statement that was put on the public record.
Victim Impact letters of statement submitted to Judge Leuthold for consideration (including one made by the victim’s mother) was not read in open court.
It is the policy of Crawford County Now to only report on information placed on the record in open court.
Following the article, the mother of the victims reached out to and provided for Crawford County Now the following statement submitted to the court in writing:
“Dave has taken my kids’ innocence away from them, along with making me lose trust in ever leaving my children alone with anyone ever again. Their dad brought us here to Ohio from Canada knowing that this stuff happens here since it happened to him here in Ohio when he was a kid.
Pedophilia is not something that was prevalent while I was growing up. When the kids’ dad abandoned the kids and I and left us without a home, power and water, Dave offered us a place to live.
Little did I know he was grooming the children and I the moment their dad brought him into our lives.
I trusted Dave to watch the kids when their dad wasn’t ever available to do so. Why did he do this to my kids?
Was he getting back at their dad for sleeping with his gf while married to me? No kids whatsoever deserve this! Now they have to live with this for the rest of their life. My sweet children have had their innocence taken from them at such a young age, and I fear how it will affect them in their older years.”
Crawford County Now respects the privacy of victims in criminal cases.
Holdcraft, currently serving a 22 1/2 year prison sentence on federal crimes will face the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. According to law, Holdcraft must complete his federal sentence before he can begin to serve the sentence handed down in Crawford County.
