BUCYRUS—Nearly 74 percent of registered voters in Crawford County voted in the Presidential General Election on Nov. 3.
Ruth Leuthold, director of the Crawford County Board of Elections, had predicted that 75 percent of the county’s registered voters would vote in the general election and the final tally is 73.94 percent. She was very close with her prediction.
Leuthold said a total of 20,860 out of the 28,213 registered voters in the county cast their ballots in the November election and more people voted absentee by mail or in the office ahead of the election than voted at the polls on Election Day.
“Only 7,677 people voted on Election Day while 13,183 voted in the office before Election Day or by mail,” said Leuthold.
With the presidential general election over, the Board of Elections staff is already gearing up for the primary election on May 4, 2021.
Council positions in Bucyrus, Crestline and Galion are up for re-election and for anyone wanting to run for a position, the deadline to file a petition is coming up.
“The deadline for petitions to be in to run in the primary election is Feb. 3, 2021, for all partisan positions,” said Leuthold.
Galion’s council is non-partisan which means petitions for those positions are not due until August.
For people who are not yet registered to vote, the deadline to do so to be eligible to vote in the May 4 primary election is April 5, 2021. An application can be found on the Crawford County Board of Election website or the Ohio Secretary of State’s website.
