UPPER SANDUSKY — The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of a Mohawk High School student involved in a fatal crash Sunday afternoon.
According to a news release by the office of Wyandot County Sheriff Michael Hetzel, a 911 call was received at approximately 4:43 p.m. reporting a crash on CH 330 near CH 134 northwest of Nevada.
Witnesses said 17-year-old Heather Raypole of Sycamore was traveling westbound on CH 330 when she struck a patch of snow, went left of center and struck an eastbound SUV.
Raypole’s vehicle was struck on its side.
She was transported by Wyandot East EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital where she then was transported by medical helicopter to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo.
Raypole subsequently was pronounced dead at St. Vincent’s.
The initial investigation found she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, Wyandot East Fire and EMS and Wyandot County EMS and JAWS responded to the scene.
