The state of dental health for school-aged children is very alarming. At least half of young people, from five to seventeen years old, have a cavity and haven’t been to see a dentist in the past year.

Smile Programs served 71 students during their recent In-School Dental Program at the Bucyrus Elementary School.

“The Mobile Dentists is a wonderful program for our students and their families,” Principal Todd Roll said. “Marie Stuckman, our building’s Family Advocate, does an outstanding job organizing this program in our school.”

On average, elementary students without dental care miss 2.1 days of schools due to dental problems. Program administrators estimated that the Elementary School saved 895 hours of classroom learning time during their October visit.

“While saving classroom learning time is extremely valuable, the most important part of this program is that we are able to offer students quality dental care,” Roll said. “I am very grateful for the dentists and dental hygienists who spend time providing quality dental care to our students.”
