One of the proudest moments for an educator is to witness and recognize improved student academic achievement. Twenty-three Middle School students received commendations from the Bucyrus City Schools Board of Education during the regular November meeting for their improved performance on the 2013 Ohio Achievement Assessments (OAA).

“We are very proud of our students for the effort put forth in raising their scores on the OAAs,” Bucyrus Secondary School Associate Principal John Massara said. “These rewards are a result of the hard work and preparation by both our students and staff. I am delighted to have the opportunity to reward these students for their high achievement and give them the recognition they deserve.”

The following sixth and seventh grade students achieved an increase of two or more performance levels on the 2013 OAAs either in one testing category or across multiple testing categories. The following eighth grade students achieved an increase of at least two performance levels in one testing category and one performance level in another testing category or one performance level in each of the three testing categories.

In addition to their certificate of commendation, these students will receive a $15 Wal-Mart gift card made possible through a mini-grant from the Bucyrus City Schools Education Foundation.

“I am excited to see this tremendous academic growth in our students,” Secondary School Principal Dr. Mark Burke said. “The students honored are a great example of the young people we have in Bucyrus. I want to thank the students for their hard work, the parents for their support, and the teachers for their dedication.”
