RICHLAND COUNTY―On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the METRICH Enforcement Unit will partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement agencies to host a Prescription Take Back event for the community. The event is sponsored by several organizations, including the Mansfield Division of Police, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, Shelby Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, Richland County Solid Waste Authority, Richland Public Health, Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY), and the Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board.
The purpose of the event is to provide a safe and anonymous way for residents to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. Only pills will be accepted, and participants are encouraged to place them in a plastic bag or Ziplock bag before arriving at one of the six designated drop-off locations. The event is open to household medications only, and businesses, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical sales reps are not eligible to participate.
The Richland County Solid Waste Authority facility, located at 1125 National Parkway in Mansfield, will be one of the six drop-off locations. Other locations include the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville Police Department, Shelby Police Department, Plymouth Police Department, and Lexington Police Department. Each location will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on April 22, 2023.
Several other law enforcement agencies from the METRICH region will also participate in the event. Residents with additional questions or concerns can contact Lt. Steve Blust at 419-755-9677.
