BUTLER, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Officials in the Village of Butler have confirmed the resignation of Mayor Wesley Dingus, who submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday following charges in two separate criminal cases involving serious allegations of vehicular assault and voyeurism.

The Butler Village Council is set to convene on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at 111 Elm St. to formally vote on the resignation.

Dingus, 48, was arraigned on February 19 at Mansfield Municipal Court on two misdemeanor counts of voyeurism.

Authorities allege that a camera recorded Dingus in a minor’s bedroom, where he was reportedly observed smelling the victim’s underwear and engaging in inappropriate behavior.

His attorney, James Mayer III, has entered not guilty pleas on his behalf, with the charges stemming from an investigation conducted in January.

In addition to the voyeurism charges, Dingus is facing a felony case in Richland County Common Pleas Court. A grand jury indicted him in 2025 on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, vehicular assault, falsification, and dereliction of duty, connected to an incident on July 11, 2025, in which he is accused of striking a man with his vehicle on two occasions.

Crawford County Now will continue to follow this developing story.
