CRESTLINE — Crestline Mayor Linda Horning-Pitt broke a tie after council members were deadlocked on utility expansion during Monday evening’s council meeting.
Council voted 3-3 on a resolution to extend village water lines and services to Lonny Parrella at a residence at 7496 Crestline Road.
Parrella was present for the meeting, along with his family, and said he has diligently completed all necessary paperwork to have the water service extended to his residence.
“It is for my son so he will have water that is safe,” Parrella said. “I have done everything asked of me.”
Council member Gene Toy said the rules set by the Planning Commission deemed it possibly necessary for Parrella’s property to be annexed into the village if he wants the water service.
Since the resolution was on its third reading, a motion to vote was approved.
Toy and fellow council members Joy Miley and Mike Weisman voted against the resolution, while Kevin Eckert, Allen Laferty and Bev Payne voted to pass the resolution. Horning-Pitt voted to pass it, breaking the tie.
Resolutions to remove the paramedic certification requirement for Fire Chief Steven Krock and to appoint Horning-Pitt and Village Administrator John Rostash to the Crawford County Tax Incentive Review Council were also approved. Ordinances approved as emergencies include the village budget for 2020 and residency restrictions for convicted sex offenders.
Rostash said he is happy the budget for the village has been approved so the focus can be put back on improving the village for residents. In his report to council, Rostash said Buckeye Excavating is now connecting all the service lines to the main waterline.
“They will be working in the intersection of Main Street and Seltzer Street this week. Expect lane closures and a local detour at that intersection,” Rostash said. “The construction zone is from Wiley Street to Seltzer Street.”
In her report to council, Horning-Pitt provided a proclamation for American Red Cross Month for March. She also said that meetings are underway to ensure that every resident is part of the 2020 census count.
In the middle of the meeting, the council voted to go into executive session to discuss pending litigation. No action was taken, and no other information was provided.
The next council meeting is March 16 at 6:30 p.m.
