MARION—Troopers from the Marion Patrol Post are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on January 19 at approximately 8:05 PM on State Route 309 at Marion Williamsport Rd. West in Marion.

The crash involved a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia semi-tractor driven by Saul Lopez Ramirez, age 34, of Monte Alto, Mexico. The other occupant was Luis Alberto Rosales-Delacruz, age 35, of San Luis Tecuautitlan, Mexico. The second vehicle was a 2014 Freightliner Columbia semi-tractor driven by William C. Gilbert, age 51, of Marion

Mr. Gilbert was westbound on State Route 309, approaching the intersection of Marion Williamsport Rd. West. Mr. Lopez-Ramirez was southbound on Marion Williamsport Rd. West approaching the intersection of State Route 309. Mr. Lopez -Ramirez’s semi failed to yield, entered the intersection, and struck the right side of Gilbert’s semi. Gilbert’s semi traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a light post, a ditch, and came to final rest in a field.

Lopez-Ramirez and Rosales-Delacruz were transported to Marion General Hospital with serious injuries. They were later transferred to Grant Medical Center. Gilbert sustained possible injuries and was taken to Marion General Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on the scene by Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Township Fire Department, Pleasant Township Fire Department, Marion County Highway Garage, Ed’s 24-Hour Services, and Minich Truck Repair.
