MARION — Crawford County Now has received information from the Marion County Board of Elections regarding the eligibility status of Kelly Mackay, the current President of the Marion City School Board.

Mackay’s petition for re-election has been denied by the Marion County Board of Elections, citing “fatal errors” as the grounds for non-certification.

Initially, it was reported that Mackay intended to rectify the error by running as a write-in candidate.

However, subsequent communication with the Marion Board of Elections has clarified that Mackay will not be able to appear on the November ballot in any capacity.

The Board of Elections has invoked Ohio Revised Code 3513.041 as the legal basis for their decision.

According to this code, no candidate can be listed on any ballot without a

certified declaration of intent from the Board of Elections.

For any candidate seeking to run as a write-in candidate, the deadline for application with the Board of Elections is August 28th.
