MARION—Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan announced Tuesday that the appeal filed by a Marion man, Jermail Thompson, has been denied and his conviction upheld.

Thompson was convicted in September of one count of involuntary manslaughter, one count of corrupting another with drugs, and one count of possession of drugs.

The charges came after the overdose death of Logan Good in October of 2018. A Coroner’s report concluded that Good died as a result of a fentanyl drug overdose. Thompson told police that Good had come to his Fairpark home earlier that day and “ took drugs.” A small baggie containing 0.72 grams of fentanyl was found in Good’s wallet.

A search warrant executed on Thompson’s home revealed a small baggie with 0.39 grams of fentanyl. Both baggies were tested by BCI and confirmed to be fentanyl.

Prosecutor Ray Grogan had a stern message for drug dealers doing business in Marion County:

“This is another case on which the defendant furnished the victim drugs which, tragically, cost the victim his life. Let the message be clear: if you furnish illegal drugs to someone which causes that person’s death, we will prosecute you.”

Grogan thanked the Marion City Police Department, the MARMET drug task force, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the Ohio Attorney General’s office, BCI, and others. Grogan vowed to continue his work to punish those who supply drugs to others.

Marion County Common Pleas Court Judge Warren T. Edwards sentenced Thompson to eight years in prison. His expected release date is July of 2028.
