BUCYRUS—Nearly half of the 28,213 registered voters in Crawford County have already cast their ballots as of Sunday afternoon with early in-person voting continuing on Monday until 2 p.m. for this year’s Presidential General Election.

According to Ruth Leuthold, director of the Crawford County Board of Elections, 6,851 people had voted early in-person at the Board of Elections office by Sunday at 4 p.m.

“When it comes to mail-in ballots, 6,507 have been requested and mailed out and 5,702 have been returned to us,” said Leuthold.

She said the number of people voting early in this presidential election is up from the total number of ballots that were cast early in 2016, including in-person voting and mail-in ballots.

“A total of 6,629 people voted early in-person on through the mail during the last presidential election,” said Leuthold.

She said because so many local residents have voted early, people should not be afraid to vote on Election Day.

“People voting on Tuesday should not have to wait in long lines since so many people have already voted,” said Leuthold.

She said masks are required at the polling locations and people unable to wear one will vote curbside.

Voters who mailed ballots in or dropped them off in the ballot box, located outside of the main entrance at the Crawford County Courthouse near the street, can check to ensure their ballot was received.

“The website updates overnight, our website and the Ohio Secretary of State’s site, but people can call us to check on their ballots,” Leuthold said.

Leuthold said that 69 percent of all registered voters in Crawford County voted in the last presidential election and she predicts at least 75 percent will vote in this year’s election.

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday and will close at 7:30 p.m.
