MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Mansfield Division of Police has been awarded $28,178.72 in federal traffic safety funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) to help save lives in the local community. Chief Jason Bammann announced that the funds, provided by the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s (ODPS) OTSO, will be used for the federal fiscal year 2025.

Competitive grant proposals were reviewed by OTSO, with funds awarded to projects that aim to reduce fatal crashes or significantly improve traffic safety systems. “These funds are critical to ensuring that we are doing everything possible to keep our community safe,” said Chief Bammann.

Based on crash data, several areas of interest have been identified for focused traffic enforcement, including speeding, occupant restraint use, impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and traffic safety education and awareness. The Division will use the funding for high visibility overtime traffic enforcement between October 2024 and September 2025, with the goal of reducing impaired driving, distracted driving, crashes, and serious injuries, as well as educating the community on traffic safety procedures.
