MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—On June 15, 2024, the Mansfield Police Department’s Community Action Team launched a large-scale operation aimed at reducing criminal activity in high-risk areas of the city. The operation was a collaborative effort involving numerous law enforcement agencies, resulting in several arrests and enhanced public safety.

The operation’s primary goal was to increase the visible law enforcement presence in areas with high criminal activity, apprehend offenders, and ultimately enhance public safety. Over 50 law enforcement officers participated in the operation, conducting more than 100 combined vehicle stops, citizen contacts, and home visits.

The operation was made possible through the cooperation of several law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Adult Parole Authority, the Ohio Investigative Unit, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation and Vehicle Theft Units, Richland County Adult Probation, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

The operation yielded significant results, with highlights including five gun-related cases, ten felony drug cases, and a vehicle theft arrest. In total, the operation resulted in:

  • 67 car stops
  • 40 field interviews
  • 11 APA house checks
  • 10 felony drug cases and numerous misdemeanor arrests
  • 1 vehicle theft arrest
  • 1 OVI
  • 5 gun-related cases
  • 3 shots fired reports
