MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — A student at Mansfield Sr. High School was taken into custody on November 2, 2023, after making threats to “shoot up” the school and Arlin Field, according to the Mansfield Police Department.

The first threat was received around 1:15 p.m., and by 1:25 p.m., the student had been identified and detained. The student admitted to making the threats in retaliation for a comment made about him by another student. He stated he had no intentions of committing the act, and charges are currently being sought.

While investigating the first threat, officers received information about a second potential threat involving a shooting at a football game at Arlin Field. However, after a thorough investigation, the threats could not be validated.

In response to the threats, school administrators decided to cancel classes for the day and relocate tonight’s football game to Rocky River High School. Mansfield Police will be present at the game to ensure everyone’s safety.

The police department commended the diligence and cooperation of the students in bringing these threats to light, which enabled officers to respond swiftly. They urge anyone who hears or sees threats or potentially violent activity to contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.
